WELCOME

Welcome to the research group of Dr. Arturo S.Leon. Our main research interests are on the areas of single-phase transient flows, two-phase flows [violent geysers]), resilient approaches to flood control, optimal reservoir operation under uncertainty, sustainable stormwater management and modeling, real-time control of complex hydraulic systems, computational hydraulics (CFD ) and physical modeling of hydraulic structures.

For more information about the members of our research group, our research interests, publications, teaching material, codes/softwares, current and recent past projects, our work in the news and experimental facilities please explore the left tab of this page accordingly.

M.S. and Ph.D. Student Research Opportunities

We are interested in highly motivated and academically talented Ph.D. students from Applied Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering or other engineering areas. For any research area, the candidates must have an excellent level on programming (C++, Matlab and/or Phyton) and Mathematics. Please send your CV, GRE and TOEFL (if applicable) scores, brief statement of your academic accomplishmemnts, awards, list of publications and PDF of your two most-relevant publications to Dr. Arturo S. Leon (aleon3@uh.edu). Please read more here.

RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES FOR FALL 2018 (August 2018) [NEW]

We are looking for

(1) Two PhD students with outstanding experience in water quality modeling in 3D and 1D (e.g., BioChemFOAM, EFDC, WASP and EPANET)

(2) One PhD student in OpenFOAM modeling of gas-liquid sprays. Experience in optical measurements, stereo vision and image processing is desirable.

(3) One PhD student in GIS programming, hydraulic modeling (1D and 2D), real-time flood forecasting and flood control.

(4) One Post-doc or PhD student in experimental hydraulics, especially in optical measurements, stereo vision and image processing.
