Research Project: Rational Design of Antimalarial Drugs

Co-Advisor: Prof. Peter Vekilov, UH Chemical Engineering, Link to Faculty Website

The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Houston has an immediate postdoctoral opening. The subject of investigation is the crystallization of hemin as one of the processes of malaria pathophysiology. The research activities will be carried out in collaboration with one of the medical schools in the Houston area and offer an opportunity for accumulating experience in such exchanges and in in-vivo medically relevant assays. The successful candidate will have a PhD in chemical engineering or a related area and be an expert in AFM imaging of surfaces and interfaces in solution at molecular or near-molecular resolution and one or more of the following methods: crystallization from solution, optical and/or electron microscopies, and X-ray diffraction. Expertise in molecular modeling would be an added advantage. Interested candidates should send a CV with a list of publications and summary of research interests, achievements and plans to Drs. Vekilov (vekilov@uh.edu) and Rimer (jrimer@uh.edu).

Research Project: Design and Optimization of Zeolite Catalysts

Partner: Industrial Collaboration

Interested candidates are encouraged to apply for a postdoctoral research position in the Rimer group working with inorganic materials synthesis and characterization. Prior experience with microporous materials is recommended, although candidates with related backgrounds in catalysis, materials, and colloidal/interfacial characterization are encouraged to apply. Highly motivated candidates with degrees in chemistry, materials science, and other related engineering and the natural science fields are strongly encouraged to apply. Please send your curriculum vitae to Dr. Rimer at jrimer@central.uh.edu.
