My research broadly involves understanding the molecular level interactions between Non-steroidal anti inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and phospholipids. In the context of drug delivery, phospholipid vesicles can be very powerful tunable drug delivery vehicles. However, almost all NSAIDs are widely known to strongly interact with phospholipids and are not thoroughly understood. Our major goal is to come up with model(s) that can explain what is going on at the molecular level in these systems in order to be able to engineer vesicles for wide variety of drug delivery applications like drug carrying, targeting specific cells/tissues, etc. Our approach is two fold based on both experimental techniques like calorimetry, spectroscopy and x-ray/neutron scattering and multi scale computer simulations that can complement the experimental results.
