Present Work: Sr. Consultant at M3 Technology (Software Solutions for Process Industries)

I am responsible for gathering the business requirements and operating procedures from our clients. I play an active part in deciding the modeling strategies that meet the customer needs and documenting them. The role also includes developing a system wide models for the LNG terminals across the U.S. The role extends to writing the technical document such as detailed design specifications, test scripts, system manuals, training manuals. I am also responsible for providing training to end users of the model. Apart from the project activities, a part of my job is to identify areas for optimization and writing proposals to new clients for new product development.

 Ph.D. Dissertation: An Optimization Framework for Hazardous Materials (Hazmats) Route Selection Problem

Advisor: Dr. Gino Lim, Director, Systems Optimization and Computing Laboratory (SOCL), Industrial Engineering, University of Houston.

Our research focused on developing a framework for decision makers to select safest routes for the vehicles carrying hazmats. We addressed mainly four aspects of the hazmat route selection problem. First, we developed statistical models for estimating the low probability high consequence hazmat events . Second, we develop a k-objective model to solve the routing problem. Third, while considering the stochastic and dynamic (time-varying) nature of the problem, we came-up with three methods to reduce the computational time by atleast 50%. Last but not the least, our work considers real-time routing of hazardous materials in presence of delays/damaged links.

Master's Thesis: Development of a Sensitivity Analysis Tool for Improving Capacity of Amusement Rides.

     Advisor: Dr. John L. Hunsucker, Professor Emeritus, Industrial Engineering, University of Houston

An amusement park is a seasonal business facing very high fluctuations in demand. A major question that the park management has been facing over the years is "How to tackle the excess demand on rides during the peak season? "If the park managers are able to successfully meet this demand, they not only address the capacity concerns but also improve the profitability and customer satisfaction whose importance cannot be overlooked in this era. Most managers are aware of the factors that affect ride capacity. However, they do not have the ability to accurately quantify their impacts on ride capacity (often measured as number of riders in an hour). In this research, we attempt to equip the park managers with a general model for roller coaster type rides that answer managerial queries as "How much will the ride capacity improve if the park reduces the variable x or y or both?" The model is accurate in predicting the capacity of any existing ride or a ride yet to be built given a set of inputs. It will provide an insight on the decision "Whether or not to invest on a ride with a capacity C riders per hour?"
