Tau Beta Pi
Engineering Honor Society

Who We Are

Tau Beta Pi (TBP) is the oldest engineering honor society and the second oldest collegiate honor society in America. At the University of Houston, the Texas Epsilon Chapter (TX-E) was established in 1962. The organization honors engineering students who have shown a history of academic achievement as well as a commitment to personal and professional integrity. Specifically, the society was founded to “mark in a fitting manner those who have conferred honor upon their Alma Mater by distinguished scholarship and exemplary character as students in engineering, or by their attainments as alumni in the field of engineering, and to foster a spirit of liberal culture in engineering colleges.” The organization stands by the motto, Integrity and Excellence in Engineering. The organization is invitation only based on GPA and class rank.

What We Do

Engineering Futures

The Tau Beta Pi Engineering Futures Sessions are workshops that provide engineering students training in the soft skills. These non-technical skills are necessary for success in the workplace but rarely included in the engineering curriculum. We offer the Engineering Futures Sessions every semester. The sessions are FREE and open to all engineering students. Please check our calendar for details. For more information, check out the Engineering Futures Page.

The mission of MindSET, the TBP National K-12 Math & Science Program, is to establish and support math and science intervention programs which contribute to enhanced preparation of students in the K-12 system, thus enabling them to qualify for the pursuit of careers in STEM disciplines, preparing them for competitive success in the global marketplace, and equipping them for driving the nation’s economy. We hold a MindSET event every year. For more information, please check our calendar or email our MindSET Coordinators.

Community Involvement

Besides focusing on EFs and MindSET, our Tau Beta Pi chapter also is heavily involved in the community. We try to make the most out of our resources to leverage our platform to make as positive of an affect as we can on society. Our events include but are not limited to the Houston Food Bank, Meals on Wheels, and student mentoring.
